Licensed asbestos and battery transport on Salt Spring Island

About asbestos

What is asbestos?

Asbestos is a natural silicate mineral known for its fibrous and fire-resistant properties. Historically used in construction materials like walls, ceilings, roofs and pipes, asbestos was valued for its insulation and fireproofing qualities. Its use has been largely discontinued due to the serious health risks it poses.

How do you transport asbestos?

You hire us for a full bin load. We drop off a bin at your site. It's either lined, or you bag the asbestos properly yourself. When it's full, we pick up the bin and take it into Hartland on your behalf. We don't pick up loose asbestos or single bags.

Handling asbestos-containing materials requires careful precautions. Our team is equipped to transport asbestos materials safely and in compliance with regulations.

How do I prepare asbestos for the bin?

• Double-bag your asbestos in labelled 6-mil poly asbestos bags. Goose-neck tie each bag and seal the tie with duct tape, then wipe down the outside of the bags.
• Rather not bag everything individually? We sell asbestos bin liners. Pick one up at the transfer station, or we can bring it when we deliver your bin.
• Complete a manifest (available at our office for $20).
• For loads over 1,000 kg, include a BCG number. Register for a BCG number.

Hartland requires all asbestos to be tested, with the paperwork, before it can be accepted. See the CRD's asbestos disposal requirements.

Asbestos is never allowed in our regular rental bins. We don't take single bags of asbestos, and we don't pick it up loose.

Do you transport batteries?

Yes. We are licensed to transport batteries too. Tell us what you have and we'll be in touch.
